Vice-President Kashim Shettima has disclosed that procurement reforms introduced by the Federal Government saved more than ₦1.1 trillion in 2025, describing the achievement as a major milestone in improving transparency and efficiency in public spending.
Shettima made the disclosure on Friday while speaking at the 2026 Retreat for Federal Permanent Secretaries held in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.
The retreat was organised by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation in collaboration with the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) to strengthen governance, accountability, and service delivery across the federal civil service.
According to the Vice-President, the procurement reforms have significantly reduced waste, blocked financial leakages, and ensured better value for public funds.
He said the savings demonstrate the government’s commitment to prudent financial management and ongoing public sector reforms aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability.
Shettima urged permanent secretaries and other senior civil servants to sustain the momentum by adhering strictly to procurement regulations and promoting integrity in the management of public resources.
He reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to institutional reforms that will improve government efficiency, strengthen public confidence, and support Nigeria’s economic development.
