POLICE, MILITARY, INEC DON’T BELONG TO APC — ATIKU
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has urged Nigerians not to be intimidated by the presence of security agencies ahead of the Osun State governorship election, insisting that the police, military and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are not institutions of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Atiku made the statement while speaking on the political situation in Osun State and concerns over the conduct of the August 15 governorship election.
The former presidential candidate urged voters to remain calm and exercise their democratic rights, stressing that security agencies and electoral officials are expected to remain neutral during elections.
He warned against any attempt to use state institutions to intimidate voters or influence the outcome of the poll.
According to Atiku, the credibility of the election depends on the ability of INEC and security agencies to carry out their responsibilities impartially and protect the rights of all voters and political parties.
He also called on residents of Osun to come out and vote peacefully, urging them not to allow fear or intimidation to prevent them from participating in the electoral process.
Atiku stressed that political parties and candidates should accept the decision of the electorate and allow the people’s votes to determine who governs the state.
The former vice-president further appealed to security personnel deployed for the election to remain professional and protect all citizens irrespective of their political affiliations.
His comments come amid heightened political tension in Osun as major political parties intensify their campaigns ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Atiku urged all stakeholders to work towards a free, fair and credible election, warning that any attempt to undermine the democratic process could damage public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system.
