PDP CANDIDATE REJECTS KOGI’S ₦5M CAMPAIGN BILLBOARD LEVY
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Kogi State has rejected the state government’s reported ₦5 million levy for campaign billboards ahead of the 2027 election.
The candidate described the levy as excessive and unacceptable, arguing that political parties and candidates should not be subjected to financial charges that could restrict their ability to campaign and communicate with voters.
He questioned the justification for demanding such a huge amount from candidates seeking to place campaign advertisements across the state.
According to him, the move could create an uneven playing field and place an unnecessary financial burden on opposition parties and candidates.
The PDP candidate urged the state government to reconsider the levy and ensure that electoral regulations and administrative charges do not become tools for political advantage.
He also called on relevant authorities to ensure that all political parties are allowed to campaign freely and peacefully ahead of the election.
The controversy over the billboard levy comes as political activities begin to intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with parties and candidates preparing their campaigns across Kogi State.
The PDP candidate maintained that his party would continue to engage voters and present its programmes despite the reported levy.
