POWER MINISTRY SEEKS ICPC’S GUIDANCE TO FIGHT FRAUD, GRID VANDALISM
The Federal Ministry of Power has sought the support of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to strengthen efforts against fraud, corruption, and the persistent vandalism of Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure.
During a meeting between officials of both organisations, the ministry stressed that protecting power assets and promoting transparency are critical to improving electricity generation, transmission, and distribution across the country.
The ministry noted that acts of grid vandalism, cable theft, and other forms of sabotage have continued to disrupt power supply, damage critical infrastructure, and impose significant financial losses on the sector.
Officials said closer collaboration with the ICPC would help strengthen anti-corruption measures, improve accountability, and enhance compliance with due process in the implementation of power sector projects.
The ICPC assured the ministry of its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at preventing corruption, safeguarding public assets, and promoting integrity in the management of government resources.
Stakeholders also emphasised the need for greater public awareness and community participation in protecting electricity infrastructure from vandalism and other criminal activities.
The partnership is expected to reinforce ongoing reforms in the power sector and contribute to more reliable electricity supply, improved service delivery, and increased investor confidence.
