HELL IN THE DESERT: WE DRANK OUR OWN URINE TO STAY ALIVE — LIBYA RETURNEE
A Nigerian returnee from Libya has recounted the horrifying ordeal he endured while attempting to cross the desert, revealing that he and other migrants were forced to drink their own urine to survive.
The returnee described the journey as a nightmare marked by extreme hunger, dehydration, exhaustion, and life-threatening conditions as migrants struggled to reach North Africa in search of better opportunities.
According to him, many travellers collapsed from thirst and fatigue, while others were left stranded in the vast desert without food, water, or medical assistance.
He said the desperate decision to drink urine became a means of survival after their water supplies ran out and rescue was nowhere in sight.
The testimony highlights the dangers faced by thousands of irregular migrants who risk their lives crossing deserts and the Mediterranean Sea in pursuit of economic opportunities abroad.
Authorities and migration agencies have repeatedly warned Nigerians against embarking on unsafe migration routes, urging citizens to explore legal and safer alternatives.
