JUNE 12 HEROES MUST NOT BE FORGOTTEN: SDP FLAGBEARER CALLS FOR DEFENCE OF DEMOCRACY

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has urged Nigerians to uphold democratic values and protect the legacy of the heroes of June 12.m
In a Democracy Day message, the SDP flagbearer said the sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists and Nigerians who fought for democratic rule must never be allowed to go in vain.
According to him, June 12 remains a symbol of courage, resilience, and the people’s determination to defend their right to choose their leaders through free and fair elections.
He called on citizens, political leaders, and institutions to remain committed to transparency, accountability, justice, and the rule of law as pillars of a thriving democracy.
The SDP candidate also stressed the need for electoral reforms, stronger democratic institutions, and greater citizen participation in governance to safeguard Nigeria’s democratic future.
His remarks come as Nigerians commemorate Democracy Day and reflect on the nation’s democratic journey and the enduring legacy of the June 12 struggle.
