The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it has destroyed fake and substandard products worth more than N1.5 trillion across Nigeria since 2023.
The Director-General of NAFDAC disclosed this while highlighting the agency’s efforts to remove dangerous and counterfeit products from circulation.
According to the agency, the destroyed products include counterfeit medicines and other regulated items considered unsafe for public consumption.
The NAFDAC boss said the agency has intensified enforcement operations, seizures and destruction exercises as part of efforts to protect Nigerians from products that could endanger lives.
The development comes amid growing concerns over the circulation of fake medicines and substandard products in the country.
NAFDAC has continued to warn manufacturers, importers, distributors and traders against dealing in unregistered or falsified products, stressing that offenders will face enforcement action.
The agency said its ongoing crackdown is aimed at ensuring that only products that meet Nigeria’s required safety and quality standards remain in the market.
NAFDAC urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspected fake or substandard products to the agency.
