SANWO-OLU TARGETS 40% FOOD SELF-SUFFICIENCY FOR LAGOS
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has set a target of increasing the state’s food self-sufficiency level to 40 per cent through a five-year agricultural development roadmap.
The plan is aimed at boosting local food production, improving agricultural infrastructure and reducing Lagos State’s dependence on food supplies from other parts of Nigeria.
Under the proposed roadmap, the state government is focusing on strengthening agricultural value chains and improving the facilities needed to support farmers, food processors and distributors.
Lagos, with its large population and high demand for food, relies significantly on supplies from other states. Increasing local production could help strengthen food security and improve the availability of fresh produce within the state.
Improved infrastructure and support for agricultural businesses are also expected to play a role in achieving the target, although the success of the plan will depend on implementation, investment and sustained support for farmers.
The five-year roadmap forms part of the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector and improve food supply for residents.
