HILDA BACI FIRES BACK AT CLAIMS THAT DAPPER MADE HER SUCCESSFUL
Nigerian celebrity chef and multiple Guinness World Records holder, Hilda Baci, has reacted to comments suggesting that her success and achievements are largely the result of her relationship with music executive Damilola “Dapper” Akinwunmi.
Speaking in an interview shared by Goldmyne TV on Saturday, the chef admitted that such remarks sometimes upset her, saying they reflect a wider societal attitude towards women and their accomplishments.
“I wouldn’t say it annoys me, but it is sometimes upsetting. But I think that it just goes to show where we are as people and what the mindset is, and that also tells how much work and further we need to go,” she said.
Baci explained that the comments have strengthened her determination to represent herself and other women, while creating opportunities for more women to achieve their ambitions.
“That’s why I’m so intentional about putting in so much effort in representing myself, representing women and just giving more women an opportunity to do better for themselves as well,” she added.
The celebrity chef has built a strong reputation through her culinary business and record-breaking achievements, including her 2023 cooking marathon, which brought her international recognition.
Her partner, Damilola Akinwunmi, popularly known as Dapper, is a music executive and entrepreneur who founded Dapper Music and Dapper Group.
Baci’s comments have reignited conversations about the tendency to attribute women’s professional success to the influence or financial support of their male partners rather than recognising their individual efforts.
For the chef, the message is clear: women deserve recognition for the work they put into building their own success.
