The newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, has said the eyes of more than 200 million Nigerians and the international community are on the commission.
Amupitan made the statement while speaking on the responsibility before INEC as the country prepares for future elections.
He stressed the importance of ensuring that the electoral process is credible, transparent and trusted by Nigerians.
According to him, the commission must remain focused on delivering elections that meet the expectations of Nigerians and the international community.
Amupitan acknowledged the weight of the responsibility on INEC, noting that the decisions and actions of the commission will be closely watched by citizens and observers around the world.
He called for commitment, professionalism and integrity from officials involved in the electoral process.
The INEC chairman’s remarks come as Nigeria begins preparations for the 2027 general elections, which are expected to be closely watched amid growing demands for credible and transparent polls.
Amupitan said the commission must work to strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral system and ensure that the votes of Nigerians are properly protected.
