Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 elections after winning the partyโ€™s primary election.
The results were announced at the APC secretariat in Ogba, Ikeja, by Jon Temlong, chairman of the APC National Governorship Primary Election Committee.
Temlong described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and credible, commending party members and officials for maintaining order throughout the process.
Following his victory, Hamzat expressed appreciation to party delegates and supporters for the confidence reposed in him.
The deputy governor pledged to pursue people-focused governance if elected governor, promising to prioritise development, infrastructure, economic growth and improved welfare for Lagos residents.
Hamzat also called for unity within the APC, urging party members and aspirants to work together ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Political observers say his emergence marks a major development in Lagos politics, considering the stateโ€™s strategic importance and influence within the ruling party.
Analysts believe the APC governorship race in Lagos attracted significant attention due to internal party interests, consultations and succession discussions ahead of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Oluโ€™s exit.
Supporters of Hamzat celebrated the outcome, expressing confidence in his administrative experience and leadership capacity.
The APC is expected to intensify preparations and mobilisation efforts as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather momentum nationwide.
