Back Tinubu Or Risk Losing Federal Projects, Umahi Tells South-East
Minister of Works, David Umahi, has urged political leaders and residents of the South-East region to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, warning that failure to align with the Federal Government could affect the regionโs access to major federal projects.
Speaking during a political engagement, Umahi argued that political cooperation with the ruling administration would help accelerate infrastructure development and attract more federal attention to the South-East.
According to the former Ebonyi State governor, the Tinubu administration has already demonstrated commitment to the region through ongoing road and infrastructure projects.
Umahi maintained that continued support for the President would strengthen the South-Eastโs relationship with the Federal Government and improve opportunities for further development initiatives.
The ministerโs comments have generated mixed reactions across political circles, with supporters defending the statement as political realism, while critics described it as controversial and inappropriate.
Political observers say the remarks reflect increasing political mobilisation and strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Analysts also believe the statement could intensify debates over federal character, regional politics and the relationship between development projects and political support.
The South-East has remained a major focus in national political discussions, especially regarding infrastructure, inclusion and electoral alignments.
Umahi has consistently defended the Tinubu administrationโs policies and projects, particularly ongoing federal road construction and rehabilitation efforts across the country.
