One of the governorship aspirants in the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adebayo Adelabu, has raised concerns over alleged irregularities and intimidation during the party’s governorship primary election held across the state.
Speaking with journalists after casting his vote at Ward 9 in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area, Adelabu described the exercise in his ward as peaceful, transparent and credible.
According to him, the voting process in his polling unit reflected the true will of party members, noting that he received overwhelming support from voters in the area.
Adelabu stated that out of about 437 registered APC members in the ward, more than 430 reportedly voted in his favour.
“This is my ancestral home and my natural ward. I am satisfied with what we witnessed here today. The process was peaceful, free and fair without any violence or intimidation,” he said.
However, the former minister alleged that reports from some other wards indicated cases of intimidation, manipulation and irregularities during the conduct of the primary election.
He also claimed that results were allegedly written in certain wards instead of reflecting actual votes cast by party members.
The allegations have added fresh tension to the Oyo APC governorship race as party stakeholders await the final outcome of the primary process.
Political observers say disputes and complaints arising from party primaries could influence internal party unity ahead of future elections.
The APC leadership in Oyo State is expected to review complaints and address concerns raised by aspirants following the exercise.
