President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned four major Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure projects across Lagos, Abuja and Owerri as part of efforts to expand domestic gas utilisation in Nigeria.
The projects are aimed at promoting cleaner and more affordable energy alternatives while reducing dependence on petrol and diesel.
According to government officials, the new CNG infrastructure will support transportation, energy distribution and industrial development in key parts of the country.
The President stated that the projects align with his administration’s broader energy transition agenda and plans to lower transportation and fuel costs for Nigerians.
Tinubu also stressed the importance of harnessing Nigeria’s abundant gas resources to drive economic growth, job creation and environmental sustainability.
Energy experts say increased investment in CNG infrastructure could help reduce pressure on fuel imports and improve long-term energy security.
The Federal Government has continued to encourage the adoption of gas-powered vehicles and alternative energy solutions following the removal of fuel subsidy.
Stakeholders within the energy sector believe wider CNG usage may provide more affordable transportation options for businesses and citizens over time.
The projects have generated interest among investors and industry players monitoring Nigeria’s evolving energy and transportation sectors.
