Members of Sunday Igboho’s Iru Ekun vigilante network have arrested suspected bandits and kidnappers following a gun battle during an operation in a forest in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the group, its operatives tracked the suspects to their hideout after receiving intelligence about their activities in the area.
The vigilantes claimed the suspects opened fire when they arrived at the location, leading to a gun duel before the group eventually overpowered and apprehended them.
The arrested suspects were reportedly taken into custody for further investigation and are expected to be handed over to the appropriate security agencies for prosecution.
The Iru Ekun network said the operation forms part of its ongoing efforts to support the fight against kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes in the South-West.
Residents commended the operation, while calling for sustained collaboration between local vigilante groups and conventional security agencies to improve safety across the region.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
