JUST IN: FG DECLARES JUNE 12 PUBLIC HOLIDAY FOR DEMOCRACY DAY CELEBRATION
The Federal Government has officially declared June 12 a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s Democracy Day.
The holiday is set aside annually to celebrate the nation’s democratic journey, honour pro-democracy heroes, and reflect on the sacrifices made in the struggle for democratic governance.
June 12 holds a special place in Nigeria’s history as it marks the date of the widely acclaimed 1993 presidential election, regarded as one of the freest and fairest elections ever conducted in the country.
Government officials said the commemoration provides an opportunity for Nigerians to celebrate democratic progress, national unity, and the values of freedom, justice, and good governance.
Citizens across the country are expected to observe the public holiday, while various activities and events are scheduled to mark the occasion.
The Federal Government also urged Nigerians to continue supporting democratic institutions and work collectively towards building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
