The Lagos State governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Funso Doherty, has expressed confidence that he will emerge as the next governor of Lagos State in the 2027 election.
Doherty, while speaking about his political ambitions and plans for the state, said he believes Lagosians are ready for a change after years of All Progressives Congress (APC) dominance.
The NDC candidate said his campaign would focus on presenting voters with an alternative approach to governance and addressing issues affecting residents across the state.
He is expected to campaign on policies centred on improving governance, strengthening accountability and making government more responsive to the needs of Lagos residents.
Doherty’s declaration sets the stage for a potentially competitive governorship race in Lagos ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the APC seeking to retain its long-standing control of the state.
The candidate, however, remains confident that his message will resonate with voters and give him the support needed to defeat the ruling party at the polls.
As political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of 2027, Doherty’s ambition represents another challenge to the APC’s grip on Lagos politics.
