The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have traded words over the detention conditions of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, following reports of his hospital visit.
The ADC accused the anti-corruption agency of subjecting El-Rufai to unfair treatment while in custody, raising concerns over his health, welfare, and access to adequate medical care.
The party called on the ICPC to respect the former governor’s fundamental rights and ensure that his detention complies with constitutional and legal standards.
In response, the ICPC dismissed the allegations, insisting that El-Rufai has been treated in accordance with the law and has received appropriate medical attention whenever necessary.
The commission maintained that the former governor was allowed access to medical care under proper supervision and denied claims of inhumane treatment or rights violations.
The ICPC also reiterated its commitment to conducting investigations professionally and without political interference, stressing that all suspects are entitled to due process regardless of their status.
The exchange comes amid the ongoing legal proceedings involving El-Rufai, with both sides maintaining opposing positions over his treatment while in custody.
