Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has criticised the arrest of the father of Adeyemi in connection with the PFIPC scandal, describing the action as unlawful and contrary to the principles of justice.
Falana argued that Nigerian law does not permit the arrest or detention of an individual simply because of their relationship with a suspect, stressing that criminal liability is personal and cannot be transferred to family members.
According to the senior lawyer, law enforcement agencies must conduct investigations within the confines of the law and respect the constitutional rights of all citizens.
He maintained that only individuals directly linked to an alleged offence through credible evidence should be subjected to arrest, investigation, or prosecution.
Falana urged the police and other security agencies to uphold due process and avoid actions that could amount to intimidation, harassment, or abuse of fundamental human rights.
He also called for the immediate release of anyone unlawfully detained, insisting that the rule of law must remain the guiding principle in all criminal investigations.
The remarks have sparked fresh debate over police procedures and the protection of fundamental rights in the ongoing PFIPC-related investigations.
