ACCOUNT FOR ₦126BN ‘MISSING’ ELECTORAL FUNDS, SERAP TELLS INEC

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has given the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seven days to account for over ₦126 billion in electoral funds allegedly diverted or mismanaged.
SERAP said the demand was based on findings contained in a report by the Auditor-General of the Federation, which it said raised questions about the management of electoral funds.
The organisation called on INEC to provide clarification on the funds and explain how the money was spent.
SERAP also urged the commission to address the issues raised in the audit findings and take steps to ensure greater transparency and accountability in the management of public funds.
The organisation said failure to respond within seven days could lead to further legal action.
INEC is expected to respond to the allegations and provide clarification on the financial issues raised by SERAP.
