The Senate has dissociated itself from reports linking the upper chamber to an alleged warrant of arrest issued against former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, over claims surrounding a missing ₦210 trillion.
The red chamber clarified that it neither authorized nor endorsed any such warrant, stressing that the reports do not reflect the official position of the Senate.
The clarification follows growing public debate and widespread reactions over allegations concerning the management of funds and calls for accountability within the oil sector.
Senate officials emphasized that any investigation or legal process relating to former public officials must follow constitutional procedures and established legal channels.
The development has added a fresh twist to the controversy, with political observers calling for clarity on the source of the warrant claims and the status of ongoing inquiries into the allegations.
The Senate reiterated its commitment to transparency, oversight, and due process in matters concerning public finance and national assets.
