The Federal Government has awarded a ₦3.8 billion contract for the development of a 2-megawatt solar mini-grid at Aliko Dangote University, as part of efforts to improve electricity supply in tertiary institutions.
The project is expected to provide stable and sustainable power to the university, reducing reliance on the national grid and diesel generators.
Officials said the initiative aligns with the government’s broader push for renewable energy adoption and energy diversification, particularly in public institutions.
The solar mini-grid is also aimed at enhancing learning, research and administrative activities by ensuring uninterrupted power supply across the campus.
Stakeholders have welcomed the development, noting that improved electricity will boost academic productivity and reduce operational costs.
Observers say the project reflects ongoing efforts to address power challenges through alternative energy solutions while promoting environmental sustainability.
