President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that no genuine religious teaching supports banditry, terrorism or the unlawful killing of innocent people.
Speaking on Wednesday, the President stated that nowhere in any holy scripture is violence against innocent lives encouraged or justified.
Tinubu stressed that criminal acts carried out in the name of religion remain unacceptable and contrary to the true teachings of faith.
According to him, religious leaders and citizens must continue promoting peace, tolerance, compassion and respect for human life across the country.
The President also called for unity among Nigerians regardless of religious or ethnic differences, urging citizens to reject extremism and criminal violence.
His remarks come amid ongoing concerns over insecurity, banditry and attacks affecting different parts of Nigeria.
Political and religious stakeholders have repeatedly condemned the misuse of religion to justify violence and criminal activities.
Security experts say collaboration between government institutions, religious leaders and local communities remains important in tackling extremism and insecurity nationwide.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and improving national security through continued operations and strategic reforms.
