An aide to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reportedly been hospitalised after a peace meeting linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries turned violent.
According to reports, the meeting, which was organised to address disagreements and tensions among party members ahead of the primaries, degenerated into chaos following a confrontation between rival groups.
Sources said several individuals sustained injuries during the incident, including one of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s aides who was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
The violence reportedly caused panic among attendees and further exposed internal tensions within sections of the APC structure ahead of the party’s primary elections.
Political observers say the incident reflects the growing intensity of political competition and rivalry among aspirants and party loyalists as preparations for future elections continue.
Party stakeholders have since called for calm and urged members to embrace peaceful dialogue and unity to prevent further escalation of violence.
Security operatives were reportedly deployed to restore order and prevent additional clashes following the disturbance.
The APC leadership in Lagos State is expected to continue consultations and reconciliation efforts aimed at managing internal disputes before the primaries.
Analysts warned that unresolved conflicts within political parties could affect party cohesion and public perception ahead of the elections.
