The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reportedly denied return tickets to two serving lawmakers from Rivers State, Awaji Abiante and Boma Goodhead, ahead of the partyโ€™s primary elections.
The lawmakers, who are widely regarded as loyalists of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, are said to have been excluded from the list of preferred candidates as internal political realignments continue within the state.
The development has intensified political tensions in Rivers State, where rival camps linked to Governor Fubara and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike continue to battle for influence ahead of the 2027 elections.
Party insiders say the decision forms part of broader strategic calculations within the APC as the party prepares for upcoming primaries and future political contests.
Supporters of the affected lawmakers have expressed disappointment over the move, arguing that both legislators remain influential figures with strong grassroots support in their constituencies.
Political analysts believe the exclusion could further deepen divisions within the Rivers political landscape and trigger fresh alignments among stakeholders.
Observers also note that Rivers State remains one of Nigeriaโ€™s most politically volatile states due to ongoing rivalries and shifting alliances among key political actors.
Neither Abiante nor Goodhead had officially reacted to the reports at the time of filing this story.
The APC leadership in Rivers State is expected to continue consultations as preparations for the party primaries gather momentum.
