Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, has declared that the era of impunity within the Nigeria Police Force is over, promising stronger reforms, accountability and more transparent policing across the country.
Speaking during an official engagement, the police chief said the force is committed to rebuilding public trust through professionalism, discipline and improved service delivery.
According to Disu, officers found guilty of misconduct, abuse of power or corruption would face appropriate disciplinary measures as part of ongoing reform efforts within the police system.
The IGP stressed that the force must operate with integrity and respect for the rule of law in order to regain the confidence of Nigerians.
He also announced plans to strengthen and modernise the traffic warden unit, noting that better training, improved welfare and enhanced operational standards would be introduced.
Disu explained that the reforms are aimed at improving traffic management, public safety and the overall image of the police force.
The remarks have generated reactions among citizens and civil society groups, many of whom continue to call for deeper reforms, accountability and protection of human rights within the security sector.
Security analysts say sustained reforms, proper oversight and effective implementation will be critical to achieving lasting change within the police force.
The Nigeria Police Force has faced repeated criticism over allegations of misconduct and abuse in previous years, leading to growing demands for institutional reforms.
