Delta State Governor has stirred political reactions after declaring that voting against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election would amount to “evil,” describing the President as “our in-law.”
The governor made the statement while addressing political stakeholders and supporters during a gathering in the state, where discussions centered on preparations ahead of the next general election.
According to him, Delta State and the South-South region should support Tinubu’s re-election bid because of the existing relationship between the President and the people of the region.
“We cannot fight our own in-law. Voting against Tinubu will be evil because he is part of us,” the governor reportedly stated.
The comment has since generated widespread reactions among Nigerians, with many debating whether family ties and political alliances should influence electoral decisions in a democratic system.
Supporters of the governor argued that political cooperation between regions could help attract more federal projects and strengthen national unity, while critics insisted that elections should be based on performance, accountability, and national interest rather than personal relationships.
Political analysts believe the statement may signal early alignments and strategic positioning ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 presidential election, which is already attracting intense political conversations across the country.
Meanwhile, opposition parties continue consultations and coalition talks as political activities gradually gather momentum nationwide.
