TINUBU RECEIVES OUTGOING ECOWAS COMMISSION PRESIDENT
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received the outgoing President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, as the regional bloc prepares for a leadership transition.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the achievements and challenges of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) during Dr. Touray’s tenure, particularly in the areas of regional integration, peace, security, and economic cooperation.
President Tinubu commended Dr. Touray for his service to the West African sub-region, acknowledging his contributions to promoting dialogue, strengthening democratic governance, and addressing regional security challenges.
The President also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the ideals and objectives of ECOWAS, stressing the country’s continued support for initiatives that promote regional stability, economic development, and closer cooperation among member states.
Dr. Touray thanked President Tinubu for Nigeria’s leadership and support throughout his tenure, noting that the country’s role has remained crucial to the success of ECOWAS programmes and interventions.
He expressed confidence that the regional bloc would continue to build on its achievements while addressing emerging challenges affecting peace, security, trade, and democratic governance across West Africa.
The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to strengthening regional collaboration and ensuring that ECOWAS remains a strong platform for peace, prosperity, and sustainable development in the sub-region.
