OTTI RULES OUT PRESIDENCY, ELECTIVE OFFICE AFTER ABIA TENURE
Abia State Governor Alex Otti has ruled out seeking the presidency or any other elective office after completing his tenure as governor, saying he intends to retire from active politics.
Otti made the declaration in Umuahia while speaking on leadership succession and the need to give younger Nigerians an opportunity to take up political leadership.
The governor said he was not interested in contesting for the Senate or pursuing any other political position after leaving office. He also ruled out becoming a political godfather or attempting to determine his successor.
Otti said he wanted younger people to take over leadership, arguing that there are younger Nigerians who are better equipped and qualified to contribute to governance.
He also said the person who succeeds him in Abia should emerge based on merit and the choice of the people rather than through political godfatherism. He said his administration would focus on delivering good governance before handing over to the next generation of leaders.
The governor had previously stated in December 2025 that he had no presidential, vice-presidential or senatorial ambition after his governorship. His latest comments reaffirm that position as he continues his second term in office.
