OMOKRI STANDS BY DAVIDO CRITICISM: PUBLICITY FOR ABDUCTIONS COULD BENEFIT CRIMINALS
Former presidential aide and social commentator, Reno Omokri, has defended his criticism of music star Davido’s “Bring Them Home” jacket, insisting that public campaigns around abductions may unintentionally serve the interests of kidnappers and terrorists.
Omokri argued that excessive publicity surrounding hostage situations can provide criminal groups with the attention, leverage, and publicity they seek, potentially complicating rescue efforts.
According to him, while the intention behind advocacy campaigns may be noble, stakeholders must carefully consider the possible security implications of amplifying such incidents.
His comments came in response to reactions generated by Davido’s jacket, which carried a message calling for the safe return of abducted victims amid growing concerns over insecurity.
Omokri maintained that addressing insecurity requires strategic action from government and security agencies rather than public campaigns that could inadvertently strengthen the objectives of criminal elements.
The debate has sparked mixed reactions online, with some supporting Omokri’s position while others argue that public awareness campaigns help keep pressure on authorities and draw attention to the plight of victims.
