NIGERIA, RUSSIA MOVE TO REPLACE 59-YEAR-OLD AVIATION DEAL
Nigeria and Russia have begun moves to replace their 59-year-old Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) as both countries seek to strengthen aviation cooperation and expand air transport connections.
The proposed replacement is expected to update the existing framework, which has governed aviation relations between the two countries for decades, and bring it in line with current developments in the global aviation industry.
A revised agreement could provide a clearer framework for airlines operating between Nigeria and Russia, including arrangements for air routes, flight frequencies and other operational matters.
The move also reflects efforts by both countries to deepen economic and diplomatic relations through improved transport links and cooperation in the aviation sector.
Bilateral Air Services Agreements are designed to regulate commercial air services between countries, establish the rights of designated airlines and provide the legal basis for international flight operations.
The replacement process is expected to involve discussions between aviation authorities from both countries before a new agreement can be finalised.
