MAKINDE MUST PROVE STRENGTH IN OYO — ALLI CAMPAIGN
The Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation has challenged Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to demonstrate his political strength in the state before pursuing his ambition to become Nigeria’s president in 2027.
The campaign organisation made the statement while reacting to a call by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for President Bola Tinubu to step aside and support Makinde as its presidential candidate.
In a statement by its Director of Media and Publicity, Bisi Oladele, the organisation also questioned whether the APM has the nationwide political structure required to contest a presidential election.
The group said presidential ambitions must be backed by strong political structures across the country, challenging the APM to demonstrate its presence across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Turning its attention to Makinde, the campaign organisation alleged that the governor still faces significant political challenges in his home state of Oyo. It further accused his administration of weakening the state’s 33 local government areas, claims that were presented by the organisation as part of its criticism of his political standing.
The organisation argued that anyone seeking the presidency should first demonstrate political strength in their home state, saying Makinde’s presidential ambition does not remove the political contest awaiting him in Oyo.
The APM has presented Makinde as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election, while the Alli campaign organisation maintained that the presidency would ultimately be determined by voters at the ballot box.
