LABOUR PRESSURES GOVERNORS OVER ₦70,000 WORKERS’ ALLOWANCE
Organised labour across several states has begun moves to pressure state governors into adopting the Federal Government’s ₦70,000 transport relief allowance for workers.
The initiative is aimed at ensuring that state government employees also benefit from the intervention introduced to cushion the impact of rising transportation costs and the economic hardship facing workers.
Labour leaders are seeking to persuade state governments to implement the allowance, arguing that workers across the country continue to face similar financial pressures regardless of whether they work for the federal or state government.
The demand could put additional pressure on state governments, particularly those already dealing with increased wage bills and competing financial commitments.
The Federal Government introduced the ₦70,000 transport relief as part of measures to support workers following the increase in the cost of living.
Organised labour is now pushing for wider adoption of the intervention to ensure that state workers are not left out.
