The Gombe State Government has confirmed a cholera outbreak in Billiri Local Government Area following two reported deaths.

The government disclosed that 74 patients affected by the outbreak had received treatment and were discharged.

Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal disease that can cause severe dehydration and death if not treated promptly. It spreads mainly through contaminated food and water, particularly in areas with poor sanitation.

Residents are advised to maintain proper hygiene, drink safe water, wash their hands regularly with soap and ensure food is prepared in clean conditions.

Anyone experiencing symptoms such as frequent watery diarrhoea, vomiting or signs of dehydration should seek immediate medical attention.

The state government’s confirmation highlights the need for continued public health awareness and preventive measures to limit the spread of the disease in the affected community.
