The Federal Government has approved the disbursement of ₦32.88 billion to states under the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) to strengthen primary healthcare services across the country.
The funding is expected to support critical interventions in primary healthcare, emergency medical services, health insurance coverage, maternal and child healthcare, and disease prevention and preparedness.
According to the government, the intervention is aimed at improving access to quality healthcare, especially for vulnerable and underserved communities, while enhancing the capacity of primary healthcare centres nationwide.
Officials said the funds will also help ensure the availability of essential medicines, medical equipment, and qualified healthcare personnel at the grassroots level.
The Federal Government noted that the disbursement forms part of ongoing efforts to achieve universal health coverage and strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system against public health emergencies.
It added that the programme will be implemented in collaboration with state governments and relevant health agencies to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficient use of the funds.
The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and ensuring that Nigerians have access to affordable and quality medical services.
