A Kaduna High Court has denied the bail application filed by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in his ongoing trial over alleged abuse of office and corruption-related charges.
In its ruling, the court held that the application did not meet the legal requirements for granting bail at this stage of the proceedings.
However, the court directed that El-Rufai be granted access to adequate medical care while in custody, following concerns raised by his legal team over his health.
The former governor is facing prosecution over allegations of abuse of office and other offences, which he has denied.
His lawyers had urged the court to grant him bail, arguing that he poses no flight risk and would be available for trial whenever required.
The prosecution opposed the application, insisting that the case should proceed in accordance with the law.
The ruling means El-Rufai will remain in custody as the trial continues, while authorities have been directed to ensure he receives appropriate medical attention.
