ATIKU’S LGA STILL VOTED APC RECENTLY — YILWATDA DISMISSES ADC RELEVANCE

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, has played down the political challenge posed by the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yilwatda said recent electoral results showed that the APC remained competitive across the country. He pointed to a recent by-election in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State, which he identified as the local government associated with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
According to the APC chairman, the ruling party won the election in Ganye, arguing that the result demonstrated the party’s continued grassroots presence even in an area associated with a prominent opposition figure.
Yilwatda also referred to other recent by-elections, saying the APC won four of five contests and lost only one to the Allied Peoples Movement. He argued that the results challenged claims that the ADC and other opposition platforms had already established a strong electoral base.
The APC chairman said the party had reviewed its structures from the national level down to the polling-unit level during a three-day retreat in Maiduguri. He said the party would intensify grassroots mobilisation and reconciliation ahead of the 2027 elections.
His comments come as Atiku, now associated with the ADC, and other opposition figures continue preparations for the 2027 presidential contest. Yilwatda’s remarks represent the APC’s assessment of the opposition and its own political position ahead of the election.
