Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olohundare Jimoh has called on Nigerian youths to work closely with the police and other security agencies to ensure peaceful, free, and credible elections in 2027.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement, the AIG stressed that young people have a vital role to play in promoting peace, preventing electoral violence, and strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process.
He urged youths to reject political thuggery, hate speech, and other acts capable of disrupting the electoral process, encouraging them instead to become ambassadors of peace in their communities.
According to Jimoh, community policing and active collaboration between citizens and law enforcement agencies are essential to maintaining law and order before, during, and after elections.
The senior police officer also advised political actors and their supporters to conduct their campaigns responsibly and resolve disputes through lawful and democratic means.
He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to providing adequate security throughout the 2027 general elections and ensuring that voters can exercise their rights without fear or intimidation.
Jimoh added that sustained public cooperation with security agencies will be critical to delivering a peaceful electoral process and strengthening public confidence in Nigeria’s democracy.
