FLAMINGOS CROWNED CHAMPIONS AFTER 4-0 WIN OVER TOGO

Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have been crowned champions of the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup after defeating Togo 4-0 in the final in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.

The Flamingos produced a perfect campaign, winning all five matches in the tournament. They scored 17 goals and conceded just two on their way to lifting the regional trophy.

Captain Harmony Chidi was the star of the final, scoring twice from the penalty spot in the first half. She opened the scoring in the 15th minute before converting another penalty in the 35th minute to give Nigeria a comfortable 2-0 lead at half-time.

Nigeria continued to dominate after the break, with Oluebube Umejiaku adding a third goal in the 67th minute. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi then completed the scoring in the 90th minute to seal the emphatic victory.

The Flamingos had earlier defeated Niger Republic 5-0, Ghana 4-2, Burkina Faso 2-0 and hosts Côte d’Ivoire 2-0 before their final victory over Togo.

The title gives coach Akeem Busari and his players a major boost ahead of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, scheduled to begin next month. The Nigeria Football Federation’s Acting General Secretary, Emmanuel Ikpeme, praised the team and expressed confidence in their prospects at the global tournament.
