AMUPITAN ON OFFICIAL ASSIGNMENT OUTSIDE ABUJA — INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified that its Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, is currently away from Abuja on an official assignment.

The clarification followed questions concerning the whereabouts of the INEC chairman as the commission continues preparations for the 2027 general elections.

INEC said Amupitan’s absence from the Federal Capital Territory is connected to his official responsibilities and should not be interpreted as a disruption to the activities of the commission.

The chairman has in recent months been involved in consultations and other electoral activities ahead of the 2027 elections, including engagements with political parties and other stakeholders.

INEC is expected to continue its scheduled activities while Amupitan carries out the official assignment outside Abuja.
