A former spokesperson of the Nigerian Air Force has advised the Federal Government to address existing gaps within the country’s military before establishing new military divisions.
He said priority should be given to strengthening the operational capacity of existing formations by improving personnel welfare, equipment, logistics, intelligence, and training to enhance their effectiveness.
According to him, creating additional divisions without adequately addressing current challenges could overstretch available resources and reduce operational efficiency in the fight against insecurity.
The former military spokesman stressed that modern equipment, improved coordination among security agencies, and sustained investment in defence infrastructure are essential to tackling the country’s security threats.
He also called for greater emphasis on intelligence gathering, technological innovation, and rapid response capabilities to enable security forces to respond more effectively to emerging threats.
He noted that while expanding the military structure may be beneficial in the future, the immediate priority should be to strengthen existing institutions and ensure they are fully equipped to carry out their responsibilities.
The former Air Force spokesman urged the Federal Government to adopt a strategic approach to defence planning that focuses on improving operational readiness and achieving lasting security across the country.
