BENIN–AGBOR–ASABA ROAD FAILURE BLAMED ON CONTRACTOR

The Presidency has blamed the recent failure of parts of the Benin–Agbor–Asaba Road on the contractor handling the project, calling for immediate action to address the situation.
The development comes amid growing concerns over the deteriorating condition of the major highway and worsening traffic gridlock affecting motorists along the corridor.
The Presidency said the contractor must take responsibility for the defects and urgently work to restore the affected sections of the road.
The Benin–Agbor–Asaba Road is a major route connecting Edo and Delta states and is important for the movement of people, goods and commercial activities across the region.
The worsening condition of the road has resulted in significant delays for commuters, with motorists spending longer periods on the route.
The Federal Government is expected to engage the contractor and relevant agencies to determine the immediate steps required to fix the affected portions and improve traffic flow.
The development also comes as Minister of Works David Umahi is set to inspect the Benin–Asaba corridor over the worsening gridlock and condition of the road.
The government has maintained that contractors handling federal road projects must meet required standards and deliver durable infrastructure.
Residents and motorists using the route are expected to continue experiencing challenges until urgent repairs and other interventions are implemented.
