Award-winning filmmaker Kunle Afolayan has dismissed reports claiming he is facing a ₦5 billion court case involving FirstBank over the production of his acclaimed film, Aníkúlápó, describing the allegations as false and misleading.
Afolayan said the reports circulating on social media and some online platforms are unfounded, insisting that neither he nor his production company is involved in any legal dispute of that nature.
The filmmaker urged members of the public to disregard the rumours, stressing that no court action has been instituted against him over the financing or production of Aníkúlápó.
He also called on bloggers and media organisations to verify information before publication, warning that the spread of false reports could damage reputations and mislead the public.
Afolayan reaffirmed his commitment to producing high-quality films that promote African culture and storytelling, noting that his focus remains on expanding the Nigerian film industry’s global reach.
The acclaimed director thanked fans, industry colleagues, and supporters for their continued trust, assuring them that the false claims would not distract him from his creative work.
The clarification comes amid widespread online speculation over the alleged court case, with Afolayan maintaining that the reports are entirely without merit.
