The Kogi State Government has announced the successful rescue of four persons abducted during the recent attack on an unauthorised examination centre in Olowa, Dekina Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, said the victims were freed following a coordinated security operation ordered by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo immediately after the incident.
According to the state government, Governor Ododo directed the State Security Adviser to coordinate a joint rescue mission involving the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, local vigilante groups, and other security operatives.
The sustained security operation reportedly forced the kidnappers to abandon the victims and flee as security personnel intensified pressure and combed the surrounding forests. Authorities said security operatives have continued the operation to ensure the suspects are apprehended.
The government confirmed that the rescued victims—a school principal, a NECO official, and two students—are safe and are undergoing debriefing and medical checks.
Fanwo also expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for directing security agencies to support Kogi State’s rescue efforts, describing the collaboration as instrumental to the successful operation.
The Kogi State Government reaffirmed its commitment to combating kidnapping and other criminal activities, vowing that those responsible for the abduction would be tracked down and brought to justice.
