President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstruction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway using concrete pavement, a move aimed at providing a more durable and long-lasting solution for one of Nigeria’s busiest highways.
The approval forms part of the Federal Government’s commitment to improving critical road infrastructure and enhancing the safety and efficiency of transportation across the country.
According to government officials, the decision to adopt concrete pavement is intended to increase the lifespan of the expressway, reduce maintenance costs, and improve its ability to withstand heavy traffic, particularly from commercial vehicles.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway serves as a vital economic corridor, linking Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, with the South-West and other parts of the country.
Officials said the reconstruction project is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve travel time, facilitate the movement of goods and services, and support economic activities along the route.
The Federal Government also reaffirmed its commitment to modernising Nigeria’s road network through investments in high-quality infrastructure that will deliver long-term value and boost national development.
Motorists and stakeholders have welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the use of concrete pavement will provide a more sustainable solution to the recurring deterioration of the highway.
