Former Lagos State Governor and ex-Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, has urged opposition parties to stop constantly faulting election outcomes, insisting that no electoral process anywhere in the world is completely perfect.
Fashola argued that while elections may have shortcomings, democratic progress depends on respecting established institutions and the will of the electorate.
According to him, political actors should focus on strengthening democratic processes through lawful channels rather than undermining public confidence in elections through persistent complaints.
The former minister stressed that electoral disputes should be addressed through constitutional and legal mechanisms, noting that democracy thrives when stakeholders abide by the rules of the game.
He also called on politicians to place national interest above partisan considerations and work towards improving governance regardless of electoral differences.
His remarks come amid continued debates over the credibility of elections and growing political realignments ahead of future electoral contests.
