COURTS NOT TOOLS FOR POLITICAL WARFARE — ATIKU AFTER ADC LEADERSHIP SUIT DISMISSAL
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has welcomed the dismissal of a lawsuit challenging the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the court’s decision as a victory for democracy and the rule of law.
Reacting to the judgment, Atiku said the judiciary should never be used as a tool for political warfare or to settle partisan disputes, stressing that the courts must remain independent and impartial.
According to him, the ruling reinforces confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions and underscores the importance of allowing political parties to operate within the framework of the law.
The former presidential candidate noted that attempts to use litigation to undermine political opponents or destabilise party structures are unhealthy for democracy.
Atiku commended the Federal High Court for what he described as a principled decision, saying the judgment sends a strong message that the judiciary should not be manipulated for political purposes.
He urged political actors to embrace constructive engagement, internal democracy, and respect for due process rather than resorting to unnecessary legal battles.
The suit had sought to challenge the leadership of the ADC, but the court dismissed the case, clearing the way for the party’s leadership to continue its activities.
