The leadership of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has warned that the continued neglect of teacher education poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s future development.
According to the commission, poor investment in teacher training and welfare could weaken the country’s educational foundation and negatively affect future professionals, leaders, and national productivity.
The NCCE boss stressed that teachers remain central to national growth, insisting that no country can achieve meaningful progress without prioritising quality education and proper teacher development.
He also called for stronger government support, improved funding for colleges of education, and policies aimed at restoring dignity to the teaching profession.
Education stakeholders have repeatedly raised concerns over declining interest in teacher education, inadequate infrastructure, and poor remuneration within the sector.
