The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has placed Lagos State, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and several other states on high Ebola alert following concerns over the deadly Bundibugyo strain of the virus.
Health authorities said intensified surveillance and emergency preparedness measures are now being activated to prevent any possible outbreak within Nigeria.
According to the NCDC, border monitoring, rapid response systems and public health awareness campaigns are being strengthened as part of precautionary efforts.
Officials urged Nigerians to remain calm but vigilant, advising citizens to maintain proper hygiene and immediately report suspected symptoms to health authorities.
Ebola symptoms may include fever, weakness, vomiting, bleeding, body pain and severe fatigue.
The agency also warned against direct contact with infected persons, bodily fluids or contaminated materials, stressing the importance of early detection and isolation.
Nigeria previously recorded global praise for its swift response during the 2014 Ebola outbreak, which helped contain the disease and prevent widespread transmission.
Public health experts say preparedness, surveillance and public cooperation remain critical in preventing another health emergency.
The NCDC assured Nigerians that health agencies are closely monitoring developments while working with international partners to strengthen the country’s response capacity.
