Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has filed a N1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and other parties over the alleged unlawful invasion of his Abuja residence.

According to court documents, El-Rufai claimed that the operation violated his constitutional rights to privacy, dignity, and personal liberty. He is asking the court to declare the action illegal and to award damages for what he described as harassment and intimidation.

The former governor also requested an injunction restraining the anti-corruption agency and its operatives from carrying out further actions against him without due legal process.

However, sources familiar with the matter said the ICPC’s actions were part of an ongoing investigation, although the commission has yet to issue an official public response regarding the lawsuit.

Legal analysts say the case could test the limits of investigative powers of anti-graft agencies and citizens’ fundamental rights under Nigerian law.
